What are the responsibilities and job description for the Body Shop Technician Apprentice position at Polynesian Adventure Tours Inc?
Basic Purpose:
Under the guidance and mentorship of the Body Shop Manager and experienced technicians, the Body Shop Technician Apprentice will gain hands-on experience in vehicle body repair and refinishing. The apprentice will assist in assessing, repairing, and restoring company vehicles to factory specifications while developing the skills necessary for a successful career in the trade.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in estimating parts costs and labor for cosmetic and structural repairs on company vehicles.
- Support senior technicians in removing and reinstalling vehicle body parts, including upholstery, accessories, and electrical components.
- Learn and perform basic welding, riveting, and bolting techniques under supervision.
- Assist in replacing and installing vehicle glass windows.
- Gain hands-on experience using hand tools and power tools to repair and adjust major vehicle body components.
- Help prepare vehicle evaluation reports for the safety and maintenance department.
- Learn proper techniques for restoring damaged vehicle frames and body sections to factory standards.
- Assist in vehicle painting and finishing processes, including prepping surfaces and applying protective coatings.
- Comply with all safety standards, including FCMSA, OSHA, and company safety regulations.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned while growing technical expertise.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Enrollment in or completion of a vocational or technical school program in auto body repair is preferred.
Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
- Prior experience in auto body repair, painting, or a mechanical shop setting is a plus but not required.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop skills in the body shop trade.
- Ability to use good judgment and follow detailed instructions.
- Must be dependable and punctual.
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 75 lbs.
- Comfortable working at various heights on fleet vehicles.
- Basic understanding of hand and power tools used in body repair.
- Must be able to pass HIOSH-required respirator testing.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred but not required.
