What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Polynesian Cultural Center?
Has responsibility for the organization’s accounting processes and preparation of its financial reports in an assistant role. Assists Controller in the supervisory responsibility for general and property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls. Appraises operating results in terms of costs, budgets, policies of operations, trends and increased excess revenue opportunities. Provide financial leadership in determining strategic impact of business decisions vital to meeting the mission of the Polynesian Cultural Center. Counsels with Controller, and other members of the executive team to exceed guest expectations and ensure adequate controls and processes exist throughout the Center.
Essential Functions:
- Be a strategic partner with management. Must be able to resolve difficult issues with individuals at all levels, including local and headquarters office personnel, executive management, etc.
- Develop personal and personnel capability and trust including mentoring, coaching, counseling, planning, monitoring, recruiting, training, and inspiring.
- Participate actively in the development and monitoring of the annual plan and related budget.
- Add value to operational decisions by participating up front on key opportunities.
Requirements:
- Excellent understanding of accounting principles and standards including GAAP rules and regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in business management, accounting, finance, or related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in Managing Processes, Financial Software, Developing Procedures, Risk and Controls, Audit, Accounting, Corporate Finance, Developing Plans and Budgets, Financial Skills, Analyzing Information, Management Reporting, Performance Management and Metrics.
- Five or more years of business administration and financial operations experience related to the broad requirements of this position; proven managerial and interpersonal skills; good judgment and problem-solving ability.
- Must be fluent in the English language in both written and oral communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CMA, CPA, or MBA.
- A strong knowledge of, appreciation for and experience with Polynesian culture is preferred.
- Fluency in a foreign language.

Base rate commensurate on skills and experience.
