Job Summary
The primary purpose of the Patient Care Technician Level 1 (PCT-1) is to work across multiple clinical areas within the department including : emergency room and phlebotomy. Essential job functions include : ordering lab tests in CPSI, obtaining blood specimens, perform EKGs, perform bladder scans under the guidance of a registered nurse, vital signs, documentation of care, stocks departmental supplies, transporting specimens to the lab, transporting patients, obtains blood glucose, room turnover, clerical duties : including answering phones, transportation arrangement and order entry.
The PCT-1 assigned to the Emergency Services Unit will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe, timely, effective, quality, age appropriate, culture appropriate, cost conscious and evidenced based care. The PCT-1 provides patient care on an individualized basis, according to organizational policies and procedures. Within the level of the PCT-1 qualifications, may be assigned to work on other nursing units based on patient census and staffing needs.
Essential Functions
- Moves throughout the facility as needed, appropriately assists in emergency drills and situations, and demonstrates the physical and clinical capacity to provide direct patient care and assistance with activities of daily living as described in the tasks and duties of this position.
- Performs clerical / administrative / phlebotomy tasks and duties as needed.
- Performs all tasks and duties within appropriate scope of practice under the direction of an RN.
- Works cooperatively with unit staff, physicians and ancillary departments.
- Performs all tasks and duties of this position according to hospital and department policy and procedure.
- Demonstrates commitment to Pomerene Hospital’s Values.
- Actively supports and encourages Primary Support Person (PSP) / Family involvement in patient's care, with consent of patient. Encourages PSP / family members presence at the patient's bedside and participation in the patient's care. Promotes comfortable environment in which PSP / family members may stay with patient.
Education
High School Diploma / GED General Studies- Required
1-3 MA / STNA / Phlebotomist -Preferred
BCLS certification-May be obtained during orientation period.
