Network Technician

Description

The network technician's role is to support the infrastructure and all equipment that is in use as well as assist in maintaining the stability and integrity of the local area network, wireless network and all associated infrastructure hardware. The network technician will participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software and communication links.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, deploy and support routers, switches, access points, UPSs, and other hardware.
  • Support new and existing equipment, hardware, and related software upgrades.
  • Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Build network equipment to provided specifications
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
  • Help maintain network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephone equipment, and other network appliances.
  • Maintain documentation and technical specifications as needed.
  • Assist in configuring network security solutions.
  • Support conference room technology.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

  • Experience in information technology and networking

    • Knowledge & Experience

  • Basic understanding of network security principles, general network best practices, network hardware (including routers and switches), protocols and Internet standards (including routing, DHCP, and DNS)
  • Understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.

  • Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, showing attention to detail.

  • Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot.

    • Work Conditions

  • Sometimes required to go beyond normal expectations to get a project completed or to resolve an issue.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other computer components.
  • Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.
  • Lifting and transporting moderately heavy objects, such as network equipment, tools, and cabling.
  • Travel required to regional offices and job sites, up to 50 percent of the time.
