Job Summary :
The Cross-Dock Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the cross-dock facility, ensuring the efficient and timely handling of inbound and outbound freight. This role focuses on managing a safe, productive, and high-quality work environment while meeting operational targets, including pallet movement, load securement, and overall performance metrics. The Cross-Dock Manager will collaborate closely with warehouse supervisors, yard hostlers, and drivers to maintain operational excellence and ensure customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities : Operational Oversight :
- Direct and manage all cross-dock activities, including unloading, sorting, and loading of freight.
- Oversee the accuracy and efficiency of pallet movements and ensure load securement requirements are met.
- Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments to minimize dwell time and maximize dock flow.
Safety and Compliance :
Enforce safety policies, including proper use of PPE, forklift safety, and adherence to company guidelines.Conduct safety audits, yard inspections, and monitor dock securement.Ensure proper utilization of the Glad Hand process, and perform regular dock and yard security checks.Team Management :
Supervise and develop warehouse supervisors, team leads, and hourly associates.Forecast operational needs by analyzing volume projections and leverage staffing levels and overtime to meet demand.Develop and maintain a training program to ensure employees understand safety protocols and performance expectations.Conduct pre-shift and end-of-shift meetings, with an emphasis on team updates, daily goals, and post-shift reports.Metrics and Reporting :
Monitor and analyze key operational metrics, such as pallet counts, revenue variance, and load discrepancies.Identify areas of underperformance and implement corrective action plans.Provide regular operational reports, including Pallet Calculator submissions, End of Shift (EOS) emails, and reviews of staffing levels and projected workloads to ensure sufficient coverage and task completion.Perform metric deep dives and bridge gaps to achieve or exceed performance targets.Process Improvement :
Continuously seek opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.Identify and troubleshoot operational bottlenecks and collaborate with cross-functional teams for solutions.Ensure proper maintenance and upkeep of dock doors, bollards, and dock plates using the internal repair request process.Requirements :
Experience : 3 years of experience in warehouse or cross-dock operations, with at least 1 year in a managerial role.Knowledge : Familiarity with cross-dock operations, pallet tracking, load securement, and logistics processes.Skills : Leadership, problem-solving, and the ability to drive productivity while maintaining safety.Technical Skills : Proficiency in Excel (for tracking metrics like pallet projections), operational systems, and scheduling tools.Certifications : Forklift certification (preferred), or ability to obtain within 30 days.Must have sound decision-making and problem-solving skillsMust have excellent customer service and follow-up skillsEquipment operation knowledge / experience is preferred (i.e., forklift)Must be able to work independently and as part of a teamComputer and clerical experience is preferredAbility to occasionally move / position product weighing up to 75 lbs. without assistanceMust be able to occasionally position self to maintain / move product throughout the facility and be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of timeMust be able to constantly work in an open / outdoor warehouse environmentAdditional Expectations :
Ensure time and attendance are reviewed mid-morning, with corrections sent to the payroll team.Manage supply needs by monitoring usage and requesting replenishments when necessary.Be on call for any urgent operational needs during shift hours.Salary / Benefits
