About the Position
Pond is seeking an experienced Substation Physical Engineer to support the design and development of (12kV–500kV) transmission and distribution substations. This role offers an opportunity to join our growing Energy team in either one of the following Pond offices: Atlanta, GA; Peachtree Corners, GA; Tampa, FL; The Woodlands, TX; Denver, CO. The ideal candidate will have 5 years of relevant experience and a passion for growth and collaboration. In this role, you will support the Power Services program, delivering projects for clients across the United States, offering opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills in transmission and distribution substation design. We are looking for a self-starter who can work independently. The ideal candidate will work closely with protection & control (P&C), civil, and structural teams to deliver high-quality substation solutions.
Job Responsibilities
Develop substation physical layouts, including general arrangements (GA), equipment layouts, conduit, grounding, and raceway designs.
Prepare substation design calculations such as bus calculations, cable sizing & schedules, grounding analysis, and lightning protection designs.
Coordinate with civil, site, and structural engineers to integrate their designs into substation drawings.
Specify and select high-voltage equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, buswork, CTs/PTs, and surge arresters.
Proficient in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, MicroStation, ETAP, CYME and SKM with expertise in substation design, power system analysis, and electrical modeling.
Ensure compliance with NERC, IEEE, NEC, NESC, and client-specific design standards.
Knowledge of Air-Insulated (AIS) and Gas-Insulated (GIS) substations.
Provide guidance and mentorship to team members.
Support the development of bid packages, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical specifications.
Collaborate with internal teams, including substation P&C engineers, project managers and other disciplines, as well as utilities, clients, and field engineers.
Review vendor drawings and ensure proper equipment integration into substation designs.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Professional Engineering License (PE) or on the path to obtain PE
5 years of experience in substation design
Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and design software
Salary : $65,600 - $83,100
