JOB TITLE: Teacher Assistant
REPORTS TO: Campus Principal
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non-Exempt
PAY GRADE: Para 5
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements in accordance with the campus needs assessment and campus improvement plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- HS Diploma from an accredited institution and
- Completion of at least two years of study at an institution or higher defined as 48 hours of college coursework or;
- Have obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree
- 1 yr of experience working with children
Preferred:
- Enrolled in an Alternative Certification Program
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to work well with children
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in both written and verbal use of English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a co-teaching model
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures.
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays that meet that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignment.
- Use assessment data to inform instructional practices.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies and administrative regulations.
- Assist in proper classroom management and implement daily schedule.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Discuss assigned duties with lead teacher in order to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Facilitate learning with small groups of students.
- Facilitate instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom conducive to learning.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Participate in staff development and faculty meetings as assigned.
- Assist in communicating with students and parents.
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Help teacher maintain student records and prepare required reports.
- Report to work daily per your schedule approved by your supervisor.
- Maintain administrative duties on behalf of teacher (such as taking attendance, entering grades, scheduling parent conferences, preparing student activities and assignments, checking homework, additional paperwork)
- Perform related duties (lunchroom supervision, bus duty, etc.) as assigned.
WORKING/SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing this job require the following: ability to work in a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment efficiently and
effectively with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional stress. Job may require prolonged periods of time sitting, reaching and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. May require some lifting no more than 10lbs. Overtime is required as necessary.
