General:
The Food Service Cafeteria Employee is responsible for preparing meals for school children that are appealing and nutritious in an atmosphere of cleanliness, cheerfulness, and personal caring.
Relationships:
The Food Service Cafeteria Employee reports to the Manager and to the Assistant Manager in the absence of the Manager.
Qualifications:
The Food Service Cafeteria Employee must meet the following minimum qualifications:
Professional
- Must be able to read and use simple mathematical operations
- Must be able to correctly calibrate a thermometer and to read it
- Must be able to follow a recipe and measure correctly
- Must be able to determine prescribed portions and use institutional equipment
- Must be able to lift 35-50 pounds
- Must have good job references
General
- Must be neat and clean in appearance and maintain high standards of personal hygiene and sanitation
- Must have a pleasant disposition and get along with co-workers and school officials
- Must be courteous to everyone being served or visiting the cafeteria, especially the children, parents, and teachers
- Must enjoy working with children
- Must develop and maintain an attitude of helpfulness toward children and fellow employees
- Must report promptly to work
The Food Service Cafeteria Employee must meet the additional qualifications when serving as a cashier:
- Must be able to follow procedures outlines in collection policy
- Must be able to change money quickly
- Must be able to read, write, and use mathematical operations accurately and quickly
- Must insure that accurate meal count is taken
- Must insure that accurate records are kept
- Must have a pleasant but firm disposition with children and teachers
- Must be able to operate a computer
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Food Service Cafeteria Employee has the following duties and responsibilities:
- To carry out instructions given by the Manager
- To serve in any capacity which may be necessary in an emergency
- To cooperate with faculty, students, the cafeteria manager and co-workers
- To avoid unnecessary talking during the serving periods, keep idle conversation to a minimum
- To make sure that food is ready by serving time, that the correct temperatures of food are maintained throughout the serving time as charted in ServSafe; employees must periodically chart temperatures
- To make sure all foods to be stored after serving are cooled down properly and stored properly
- To record food item usage as it is pulled from the shelf
- To rotate food items according to date received for daily use
- To guard against waste of food and other items in the cafeteria
- To keep the dining and working area clean at all times
- To make sure that the cafeteria is in order and ready for the next day of operation at the end of the day
- To take care of equipment and use it properly
- To observe safety rules at all times
- To participate in school activities related to the food service program
- To attend all staff development meetings
- To cooperate fully with the suggestions and directions of the Manager and Food Service Director
- To perform other tasks when needed as assigned by the Manager or Assistant Manager
The Food Service Cafeteria Employee has the additional duties and responsibilities when serving as a cashier:
- Must follow collection and reporting procedures as outlined in district accountability policy
- Must check trays to be sure the reimbursable meals are served
- Must cooperate with other Cashiers, Cafeteria Manager, Food Service Director, Teachers and other school personnel
- Must notify the Food Service Director of new students
- Must help in the back when not serving or keying in money, and check eating area for neatness and cleanliness
Terms of Employment:
- Work agreement for 183 days at 7 hours per day
- Daily schedule _____ a.m. until _____ p.m. with _________ lunch
