The Fleet Manager at Pony Xpress Delivery is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a company's vehicle fleet, including maintenance, compliance, acquisition & disposal, while ensuring efficient operations, cost control, and adherence to safety regulations by planning, coordinating, and supervising the utilization of company vehicles while minimizing downtime and maximizing asset value.
The Fleet Manager will oversee a broad fleet ranging from cargo vans, step vans, box trucks, day cab and sleeper tractors. These vehicles are powered by gasoline, diesel, compressed natural gas(CNG) and electricity. Finally, the fleet of almost 100 vehicles is domiciled in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, OH
Key responsibilities of Pony Xpress’ Fleet Manager include:
Maintenance and Repairs:
- Scheduling routine vehicle servicing and maintenance, coordinating repairs with service provider partners, managing any parts inventory, and monitoring vehicle health through inspections via Whip Around or Amazon Relay.
- In addition to routine maintenance, develop & execute a strategy to ensure the outsides and insides of all vehicles are clean.
Compliance Management:
- Ensuring adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations regarding vehicle registration, inspections, driver licensing, and safety standards.
- Provide Monthly Maintenance Reporting to FedEx be the 20th of each month.
- Ensuring that drivers are consistently performing DVIRs and are operating vehicles safely. Partner with Driver Training & Safety Manager when drivers consistently are not meeting our safety operating standards.
Cost Control:
- Analyzing fuel consumption, identifying cost-saving opportunities, managing fleet budgets, and tracking vehicle expenses.
Fleet Tracking and Reporting:
- Leverage Whip Around to ensure that routine service is done promptly. In addition, develop appropriate service programs & schedules so that vehicle reliability remains high.
Risk Management:
- Identifying potential safety hazards, implementing preventative measures, managing insurance claims related to fleet accidents.
Vehicle Acquisition and Disposal:
- Sourcing and procuring new vehicles based on company needs, determining when to retire vehicles, and overseeing the selling or disposal process.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify fleet issues and implement solutions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with drivers, service providers, and operations management.
- Proficiency in Whip Around, Amazon Relay and other fleet management tools.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance practices and repair procedures
- Understanding of relevant transportation regulations and compliance requirements
- Leadership abilities to partner with other functional areas to accomplish company objectives.
- Financial acumen to budget and manage fleet costs effectively
