Description:

Lil’ Scouts, located at Poochie’s Park, is looking for an Assistant Dog Trainer to help grow our new business!

Do you want to make a difference in the every day lives of people and the dogs they love? As an Assistant Trainer you will be in charge of guiding dogs through their lessons. Although the Assistant Trainer will be working independently with the dogs the majority of the time, they will always have the guidance of the Lead Trainer. The Assistant Trainer must be patient, persistent and have a positive attitude. We are looking for someone who is great with both dogs and people, as there will be days the Assistant Trainer works closely with the human clients too!

Pay:

$16 per hour or commission (whichever is higher each week)

Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned or not listed)

- Help develop individual lesson plans for each dog during initial consults

- Teach Human clients in 1 on 1 lessons

- Coach and motivate human clients to follow through with lesson plan during exit consults

- Create and send daily post card videos of each boarding/daycare training dog’s lesson to owner

- Train dogs following our program’s training curriculum

- Report any concerns or updates to head trainer in timely manner

Qualifications/Pre-Reqs:

Work Experience: Have at least 2 years of experience working with dogs. (previous dog training experience preferred)

Education: High School Diploma/GED

Dog Experience: Experience training dogs is preferred. Other experience with dogs such as kennel tech, Vet tech or dog daycare worker are a plus. Must be patient with “stubborn” dogs and have a good understanding of dog psychology. Must also have a natural ability to communicate easily with dogs.

Language Ability: * Ability to read and interpret documents in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and clearly. Ability to make “sales” during consults with owners.

Computer Skills: * Basic understanding of multiple software applications including Microsoft Word and Excel; Skilled navigation and understanding of internet applications. Ability to learn how to make short videos to send to clients.

Problem Solving Ability: Example. A trainer must not get frustrated and be able to find a solution in a situation where a dog is struggling to understand a concept or will not focus.

Reliable Transportation: *Must own a vehicle or have access to reliable transportation

Physical Demands and Work Environment: * While at work, you may occasionally need to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, you are regularly required to talk or listen. You will be required at times to stand, walk or run/sprint. You will also be required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The work environment can be loud, wet, hot, cold, windy, humid, dirty, full of dog hair/dust, and cleaning chemicals are used.

Schedule:

Part Time – Full Time

9-5

5 days a week (will include at least one weekend day)
