COMPANY OVERVIEW:
- We are a dynamic and growing property management company seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Property Accountant to join our team in commercial property management
POSITION SUMMARY:
- The Property Accountant is responsible for managing the financial reporting and accounting functions for a portfolio of commercial properties throughout the Denver Metro Area. This role ensures accurate financial records, timely reporting, and compliance with lease agreements, regulatory requirements, and company policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and maintain monthly financial statements, general ledgers, and supporting schedules for assigned properties.
- Reconcile bank accounts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and tenant ledgers
- Prepare tenant charges and generate tenant statements
- Ensure accurate and timely posting of rent payments, operating expenses, mortgage payments, owner distributions and other property-related transactions
- Process monthly accruals, amortizations, and reconciliations in accordance with GAAP
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with property managers
- Perform CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations and tenant billings per lease agreements
- Review and process invoices, ensuring accuracy and proper coding
- Coordinate with property managers to analyze variances and financial performance
- Maintain compliance with lease agreements, including monitoring rent escalations, expense recoveries, and other financial obligations
- Assist with audits, tax filings, and year-end financial reporting as required
- Implement and improve accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Work closely with external auditors, tax consultants, and financial institutions as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate or property management
- Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting principles
- Experience with property management accounting software (e.g., Skyline, Yardi, MRI, AppFolio) preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with various teams
