Description:

The athletic director oversees and nurtures the athletic program, which helps fulfill the school's overall mission. The director cultivates and maintains a culture of sportsmanship and respect throughout all levels of the athletic program. The ideal candidate will promote, support, and live the school's Christian mission.

Performance responsibilities:

  • Develop and articulate a clear vision for athletic excellence that aligns with the school’s mission.
  • Ensure the cohesion of vision and goals across the athletic department, including between varsity and lower athletic teams and high school and middle school teams.
  • Recruit, hire, evaluate, and mentor all coaches. Ensure regular and relevant professional development for all coaches. Develop and implement a coach’s handbook.
  • Host preseason meetings with coaches to review the school’s policies, procedures, expectations, and goal setting. Conduct post-season debriefing meetings and evaluations.
  • Partner and communicate with academic leadership to attract and retain teacher coaches.
  • Work with the Principal and Student Life Office to support all student-athletes in matters of eligibility and discipline.
  • Partner with the Admissions Office in the enrollment and retention of mission-appropriate students.
  • Serve as athletic liaison to the Counseling Office.
  • Lead and mentor all athletic team members and evaluate staff on key performance. indicators. Ensure appropriate assignment of projects and adequate support for the performance of duties.
  • Communicate professionally with the school community on athletics-related topics and issues.
  • Communicate regularly with athletic trainers regarding student injuries and medical situations.
  • Partner with the Maintenance Team on the care and upkeep of athletics facilities and the Transportation Department for transportation needs.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications on correspondence to constituents, social media, and media presence. Ensure all branding guidelines are followed in the athletic department.
  • Order and maintain inventory of all athletic uniforms and equipment.
  • Meet regularly with the CFO/COO regarding budgets, risk management, and capital asset needs.
  • Represent JPII at TSSAA and HVAC meetings.
  • Serve as the liaison with the Knight Athletic Club (Booster Club).
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Active faith life and membership in a Christian church.
  • Athletic administration experience or experience as a head coach.
  • Ability to interface and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty and staff, alumni, and guests.
  • Willingness to collaborate with academic staff to ensure that student-athletes are supported and succeed academically and on the field.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Understanding of and passion for the school’s mission and values and an ability to articulate this internally and externally.
  • Ability to think strategically and plan for athletics with the greater school goals and priorities in mind.
  • Expertise in project management: prioritize multiple requests and meet deadlines.
  • Strong financial competence in budgeting and expense tracking. Good stewardship of equipment and capital assets.
  • Model a leadership style that is open, supportive, collaborative, and respectful of staff.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in building and leading successful teams.
  • Physical demands include lifting equipment, riding on buses, driving activity buses, attending outdoor events with possible inclement weather, and being able to walk stairs and across campus.

Classification: Full-time, 12 months, Exempt Position. Requires travel, plus evening and weekend work.
