Responsibilities:

  • Assist the shelter veterinarian in conducting routine examinations, vaccinations, and medical treatments for animals in the shelter.
  • Prepare and assist in surgical procedures, including pre-operative preparations, monitoring anesthesia, and post-operative care.
  • Perform and assist with diagnostic tests and procedures such as urinalysis, blood tests, and other laboratory work.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
  • Safely and compassionately handle animals during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all animals, ensuring proper documentation of treatments and medications.
  • Interact with adopters, foster families, and other members of the community, providing information on animal health and care.
  • Monitor the health and behaviors of animals in the shelter, identifying and reporting any signs of illness or distress.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and sterilization of surgical and medical equipment, as well as maintaining a sanitary environment in the clinic area.
  • Collaborate with other staff members, volunteers, and external veterinary professionals to ensure the highest standard of care for shelter animals.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of veterinary medical procedures and terminology.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Animal handling and restraint skills.

Requirements:

  • Previous veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience in a veterinary practice or shelter environment.
  • Certification or degree in veterinary technology is a plus!
  • Fear Free Certification is a plus!
  • Availability needed for Mondays and Wednesdays!

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12 – 24 per week

Schedule:

  • Holidays
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed

Work Location: In person
