Responsibilities:
- Assist the shelter veterinarian in conducting routine examinations, vaccinations, and medical treatments for animals in the shelter.
- Prepare and assist in surgical procedures, including pre-operative preparations, monitoring anesthesia, and post-operative care.
- Perform and assist with diagnostic tests and procedures such as urinalysis, blood tests, and other laboratory work.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
- Safely and compassionately handle animals during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all animals, ensuring proper documentation of treatments and medications.
- Interact with adopters, foster families, and other members of the community, providing information on animal health and care.
- Monitor the health and behaviors of animals in the shelter, identifying and reporting any signs of illness or distress.
- Ensure the cleanliness and sterilization of surgical and medical equipment, as well as maintaining a sanitary environment in the clinic area.
- Collaborate with other staff members, volunteers, and external veterinary professionals to ensure the highest standard of care for shelter animals.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medical procedures and terminology.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Animal handling and restraint skills.
Requirements:
- Previous veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience in a veterinary practice or shelter environment.
- Certification or degree in veterinary technology is a plus!
- Fear Free Certification is a plus!
- Availability needed for Mondays and Wednesdays!
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 12 – 24 per week
Schedule:
- Holidays
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
