JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE : ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL (SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL)
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : SECONDARY PRINCIPAL (GRADES 9-12)
Must hold a minimum of an Initial Administrator Certificate Issued by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in the area of (Secondary Principal). Must have achieved a score equal to or greater than the Missouri qualifying score on the assessment designated by the State Board of Education for initial certification; and a minimum of two (2) years teaching experience approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; successful completion of the building-level administrator's assessment designated by the State Board of Education; and the completion of a master's degree in educational leadership from a college / university meeting approval of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. All DESE certification requirements must be met to be considered for the position.
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL REPORTS TO : THE SUPERINTENDENT, THE ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT-PERSONNEL, AND THE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL.
SUPERVISES : TEACHERS, STUDENTS, AND ALL SUPERVISORY DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY THE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL.
JOB GOAL : TO EFFECTIVELY ASSIST THE PRINCIPAL IN THE TASKS OF SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP, IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN THE BEST POSSIBLE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
Assist the principal and the administration in the leadership and philosophy of the school.
Assume all duties as assigned by the principal and the school administration.
Provide supervision and leadership to the student body and staff.
Assist in maintaining student discipline.
Conduct building investigations, as designated by the principal and the administration.
Assist in the development of class schedules and extracurricular activities of students.
Work with department heads and the faculty with all duties, as assigned.
Coordinate and supervise safety inspections, safety drills, and activities.
Assume responsibility for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other
support services.
Monitor student attendance, and work with the attendance officer while investigating and conducting follow-up actions, as deemed necessary.
Represent the high school with parent, faculty, and students groups to advance educational
related activities and objectives.
Perform such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct.
Complete any and all duties, as assigned by the building principal and administration.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
Responsible for assigned discipline and supervision.
Responsible for teacher evaluations.
Responsible for maintaining accurate and updated records.
Analyze data and makes the necessary corrections.
Assist with all aspects of graduation.
Responsible for disseminating information assigned by the principal to students, parents, and staff.
Responsible for student handbooks and each yearly review to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Responsible for the senior high activities calendar and coordination thereof.
Coordinate and supervise clubs and determine the assignment of teacher sponsors.
Complete designated paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
Attend all meetings, as assigned.
Responsible for the freshman orientation and any other orientation assigned.
Coordinate the mentor / mentee program and serve as a mentor to new teachers.
Responsible for the organization of prom activities.
Assist with the Poplar Bluff High School Basketball Showdown.
Coordinates activities of the senior banquet and dance.
Responsible for class events assigned by the principal.
Coordinate class officer nominations and elections.
Coordinate student council elections of officers.
Coordinate homecoming activities with the student council.
Responsible for student, parent, and teacher orientations.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Contract Length (Two-hundred and forty-days). Salary is based on the Board Approved Administrative Salary Schedule, Column (E) Index 2.05. Experience is also considered based on the Board Approved Administrative Schedule.
EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Administrators.
