TITLE: Director of Summer School

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS: MUST HOLD A MINIMUM OF A MASTER'S DEGREE ADMINISTRATION. MUST HOLD A VALID MISSOURI TEACHING CERTIFICATE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION.

JOB GOAL: SERVES AS THE CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER AND SUPERVISOR OF THE SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM WITH COMPLETE CHARGE OF THE GENERAL ADMINISTRATION AND SUPERVISION OF EACH RESPECTIVE SCHOOL UNDER SUCH POLICIES, RULES AND REGULATIONS ESTABLISHED BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION. SERVES UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS AND DESIGNEES. COORDINATES AND DIRECTS THE EFFORTS OF ALL PERSONNEL ASSIGNED TO THE PROGRAM IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM.

SUPERVISES: CERTIFIED AND CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES AND ALL SPECIAL TEACHERS WHO SERVE IN ANY CAPACITY OF THE PROGRAM.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Keeps the Superintendent informed of the school's activities and problems; of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to the supervisor's accountability.
  • Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration.
  • Works with various members of the district staff on school problems such as transportation, special services, etc.
  • Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
  • Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.
  • Supervises the school's educational program.
  • Leads in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program.
  • Prepares classes within established guides to meet student needs.
  • Assists in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process to the rights of students.
  • Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline.
  • Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
  • Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of the health of students.
  • Assumes responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, through attendance at regional, state, and national meetings.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  • Supervises the school's teaching process.
  • Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate.
  • Recommends according to established procedures, the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory.
  • Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers.
  • Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
  • Provides for adequate inventories of property under his jurisdiction and for the security and accountability for that property.
  • Responds to written and oral requests for information.
  • Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed to by the

Specific Responsibilities

  • Assigns to teachers their classrooms, students, supervisory duties and other responsibilities.
  • Functions as a supervisor of instruction and evaluates the work of all teachers assigned to the school and discusses the findings with the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Coordinates the activities and schedules of the teachers of special subjects, other certificated personnel and teacher aides assigned to the building.
  • Assess curriculum needs at the building level and explore methods of improvement.
  • Attends local administrators' meetings, and elementary principals' meetings.
  • Establishes the time of arrival of students on the school premises and makes exceptions which are justified by unusual circumstances.
  • Emphasizes proper care of the school grounds, playground equipment, office equipment, duplicators, educational supplies, and the building staff.
  • Submits work orders in a manner conducive to the effective operation of the school plant.
  • Reports immediately to the office of the Superintendent of Schools the details of any serious injury to a student, teacher, or other school employee.
  • Reports by telephone to the Superintendent's office any instance of vandalism or theft and notifies the school security officer.
  • Conducts fire and other disaster drill on a regular basis.
  • Submits on time all reports, teacher evaluations, inventories, attendance registers, and other records required by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Approves all bulletins issued to parents by the school.
  • Performs any other duties which may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and his designee or the Director of Elementary Education.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Summer School established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated by the Superintendent.

Essential Functions Of The Job

  • Must hold a valid Missouri Principal's certificate.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate with students, parents, and staff.
  • Must be able to understand oral communication.
  • Must have correctable vision in order to read written communications and make visual evaluations of staff members.
