You should have a working knowledge of relevant structural concepts pertaining to bridges and other highway structures, enabling you to understand and assess their condition.
Responsibilities
- Structural analyses of bridges to determine the capacity.
- Entry of data into bridge inspection software and Microsoft Word/Excel/Access; development of structural drawings using CADD, and the compilation of reports and other documents.
- Assist with the preparation of design calculations and details.
- Assist in the preparation of contract plans and specifications.
- Assist in the preparation of construction cost estimates.
- Assist in the review of construction submittals.
- Performs occasional Field inspections of existing structures.
- Performs occasional field visits to resolve construction issues.
- Knowledge of basis engineering principals and techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document bridge conditions in required format, along with appropriately referenced photographs in a clear and concise manner.
- Must be focused on providing quality work.
- Working knowledge of relevant structural concepts of bridges and other highway structures.
- Experienced in common computer applications (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Access), experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation preferred.
- Bachelor or Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- 0-3 years of experience.
- No certifications are required.
- Combination of professional office environment and field work.
- Work alongside a Professional Engineer (PE).
- Position includes a career development plan with an established path towards their PE.
- Field work requires employees to be willing to work in various weather conditions and nature.
- Required to travel to project sites with NYS.
- Must physically be able to perform field inspection work, e.g., carry/climb ladders, wade in streams, work around traffic, work at heights, etc.
- This job requires prolonged periods of sitting at a computer.
- Lifting up to 25 to 50 lbs. is required.
