Port KC is searching for a reliable, passionate and collaborative individual to fill the Communications Internship role. The summer internship runs May through August and provides a valuable opportunity to apply coursework and knowledge to Port KC projects and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic office environment. You will not only work on meaningful projects tied to Port KC's mission and business objectives, but you will also get exposure to the Port KC leadership team, learn more about programs and business initiatives, visit with employees from other departments, and be a part of a talented team of professionals making a difference. INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
The Communications Intern will have a journalism, communications, public relations and/or marketing major, a strong academic background and demonstrated leadership skills. You will have the opportunity to work and gain hands-on experience with real communication department needs. You will be tasked with projects focused on social media, presentations, press releases, web development, marketing projects and more. This is an opportunity to put your knowledge to work while learning new elements of the rigorous communications world.
Projects include:
- Social media posting
- PowerPoint presentation design
- File organization (more important than you think)
- Photography/Videography assignments
- Writing (web, brochures, press releases)
- Ad design
Internship Schedule:
- May - August
- 15-20 Hours Per Week
- In Office
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or similar
- Work and extra-curricular endeavors
- Can work independently
- Driven by curiosity and a desire to learn
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
You will stand out if you have:
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe, and PowerPoint
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated leadership
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
