Position Summary
Provides day-to-day leadership and works with staff to ensure a high-performance that supports achieving the department's objectives. Provides technical assistance to staff members. Inspects tools, equipment, and machinery to ensure proper and safe operating conditions. Examines buildings and facilities for maintenance, repair needs, work in progress and at completion to ensure compliance with plans, for direct reports and contractors, this includes, HVAC, Plumbing, carpentry and all other trades work.

Examines buildings and facilities for maintenance, repair needs, work in progress and at completion to ensure compliance with plans, for direct reports and contractors, this includes, HVAC, Plumbing, carpentry and all other trades work.
Key Responsibilities/Duties
- Supervise and assist with all work assignments and job planning for repairs, installation and regular maintenance to all Port Houston facilities
- Prioritize and assign daily work
- Coordinate communications and job assignments and checks work for adherence to departmental standards
- Utilize computer to enter and retrieve information
- Authorize and assist the withdrawal of supplies from storeroom stock; oversee the use of purchase orders and vendor accounts
- Coordinate repair work and new installations with contractors, tenants, and customers
- Supervise completion of related paperwork, such as work orders, purchase orders, charges to other departments, job assignments, time sheets, vacation request, safety meetings, accident reports and etc.
- Assist and advise employees with complex and unusual assignments
- Oversee dispatch of emergency repairs and services to equipment and facilities as needed
- Enforce departmental rules and regulations governing employees
- Review state of the art repair technology
- Supervise subordinate employees in the performance of their daily assignments and activities, train new employees
- Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hours
- Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor
- Act in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)
- Perform other duties as required
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required
- Associate’s degree preferred
- 5 years maintenance experience required
- Knowledge of general carpentry, asphalt, concrete, plumbing fence repair and installation
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations
- Knowledge of applicable codes
- Knowledge of construction projects and practices
- Knowledge and utilization of the M5 system, for management of man hours and inventory
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Personnel management skills
- Ability to schedules and plan work projects
- Ability to maintain records and inventory control
- Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings and design specifications
- Ability to operate forklift, if needed
- A current, valid Texas driver's license is required
- A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment
