English Learner Tutor
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school Diploma, College Degree Preferred
- Ability to Pass PCMI Background Check and PCMI certifications for employment
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve problems creatively
- Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, presentation and public relations skills
- Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds of families
- Experience with school, family and community activities and programs preferred
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk for long distances, climb stairs, and move frequently in and out of a car.
- Posses reliable transportation and a valid MI driver’s license and satisfactory driving record which includes no at-fault accidents or moving violations during the past year, or no more than one at-fault accident or moving violations during the past three years and no DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs) convictions
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support and promote English language acquisition and content instruction for English Lerner (EL) students within the general education classroom.
- Meet with Teacher Consultant or EL teacher to determine the needs of EL students
- Provide support / guidance of how to access translation and interpretation resources, such as LanguageLine, when needed
- Attend EL professional development meetings
- Attend parent meetings, if requested by EL Teacher Consultant, EL Teachers and Classroom Teacher
- Complete required documentation by established deadlines
- Maximize students success by maintaining focus and minimizing outside distractions while working with students
- Assume other responsibilities as determined by their supervising administrator that are within grant funding guidelines
- Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner commensurate with his/her position and projects a good public image of the School District in dealing with the community and employee groups
