QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Possess and maintain a Michigan license to practice as a licensed Social Worker
  2. Masters in Social Work required
  3. School certificate required
  4. Working knowledge of principles, practices and ethical standards of School Social Work; the relevant state and federal laws, rules and regulations; and applicable district policies
  5. Ability to travel between school sites throughout the district as necessary
  6. Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse background and initiate positive contacts with staff, students, parents and the community

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide school social work services to students who are at-risk for school failure and/or are demonstrating social/emotional/behavioral problems within the school setting
  2. Provide direct and indirect school social work services as a related service in support of special education
  3. Assists school staff in developing and implementing interventions to allow students with disabilities to be successful in an educational setting
  4. Conducts social/developmental assessments of students referred for special education, assists in determining eligibility for special education
  5. Communicates with staff, administration and parents concerning students’ social, emotional and behavioral progress
  6. Provides information to students and parents concerning students’ social, emotional and behavioral progress
  7. Provides information to students and parents about services available within the community. Makes referrals to community providers as appropriate
  8. Maintains an accurate record of student, parent and other contacts
  9. Conducts students risk assessments
  10. Coordinates home, school and community resources in addressing the crisis situation
  11. Act as liaison between the schools, physicians and public health entities
  12. Coordinate mental health documents and mutual health related communications between hospitals, medical agencies, and the school
  13. Have CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention training or willing to get the training.  Able to bend, twist, lift up to 50lbs to manage students behavior. 
  14. Attend all meetings and professional development as directed by the Director of Special Education
  15. Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner commensurate with his/her position and project a good public image of the School District in dealing with the community and employee groups
  16. Assume other responsibilities as determined by administration and as allowable by funding sources
