Primary Purpose:

The role of an Educational Diagnostician in Port Neches-Groves ISD is to implement the special education assessment process and evaluate the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred to special education services. The diagnostician will write reports, provide diagnostic information, effective recommendations, and work collaboratively with all staff to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities. The diagnostician will conduct meetings and build relationships with families and team members. Additionally, in PNGISD, all stakeholders are considered learners and are expected to continue to learn, grow, and positively contribute to the world around them.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Master’s degree with valid certification

Experience: Three years teaching experience (Special Education Preferred)

Diagnostician and Bilingual experience preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of special education assessment process, students’ needs, and classroom recommendations
• Ability to take initiative and follow-through
• Ability to contribute positively and work as part of a team
• Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
• Strong ability to multi-task

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Receive student referrals and implement the assessment and evaluation process.
• Select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations.
• Collect and organize relevant assessment data from the student's cumulative folder, classroom teachers(s), principal, support staff, parents.
• Conduct classroom observation and personal interviews.
• Participate and lead Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings; assist the ARD committee with interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
• Work as a part of the PNGISD special education assessment team.

Program Management

• Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
• Manage assigned caseload, including conducting evaluations within the required timeline and holding ARDs within the required timeline.
• Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
• Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the areas of assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
• Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.

Consultation

• Assist classroom teacher with implementation of the IEP.
• Consult with parents concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.
• Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.
