Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Business Development and Marketing, The Business Development Associate supports the Port of Brownsville’s marketing and business development efforts by executing sales strategies, maintaining customer relationships, conducting market research, and contributing to promotional initiatives. This role is responsible for identifying prospective clients, coordinating business meetings, supporting lead generation, and assisting in the development of marketing materials.
Job Responsibilities
- Analyze industry trends, customer preferences, and competitive positioning, particularly in the U.S. and Mexico markets.
- Identify potential industries, regions, and business opportunities for growth.
- Collect and analyze customer data to tailor sales approaches effectively.
- Research and identify prospective clients across key industries.
- Initiate contact through calls, emails, and networking events to generate leads.
- Qualify leads and determines alignment with the Port’s services before escalating to senior team members.
- Maintain accurate records of all prospective interactions using CRM tools.
- Develop strategies to attract new clients while fostering strong relationships with existing customers.
- Work closely with economic development organizations, site selectors, chambers of commerce, and federal/state agencies.
- Assist in setting revenue targets and developing action plans to meet or exceed goals.
- Monitor and manage the sales pipeline from lead generation to deal closure.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings with potential clients and key stakeholders.
- Prepare detailed research reports on clients’ businesses and their potential needs.
- Assist in the creation of proposals, presentations, and marketing materials for client interactions.
- Identify and participate in trade shows, expos, and industry forums to promote the Port’s services.
- Represent the Port at networking events, workshops, and client meetings.
- Develop and execute pre-show marketing campaigns and post-event follow-ups to nurture leads.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to execute targeted campaigns via digital platforms (Google Ads, LinkedIn, social media, etc.).
- Create and manage localized content, including blogs, white papers, and case studies tailored to U.S. and Mexico audiences.
- Develop and maintain sales and marketing materials, ensuring consistency in branding and messaging.
- Work with operations and logistics teams to ensure seamless product/service delivery.
- Assist in preparing reports and presentations for senior management and the Board of Commissioners.
- Track and report sales activities, performance metrics, and customer feedback for continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and CRM software.
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and highly organized.
- Ability to analyze customer data and market trends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in lead generation, customer service, or inside sales.
- Knowledge of logistics, transportation, and distribution industries.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Work Conditions & Physical Demands
- Frequent use of computers and office equipment.
- Frequent travel for trade shows, client meetings, and networking events.
- Light physical activity, including occasional lifting (up to 10 lbs).
- Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or walking.
- Possible moderate outdoor exposure when visiting client sites or industry events.
Additional Requirements
- Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
- Valid U.S. Passport
- Ability to obtain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background investigation.
