What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern - General Services position at Port of San Diego?

We are administrators, analysts, planners, journeymen, and technicians who understand all facets of maintenance.
As an Intern in the General Services department, you will gain valuable experience supporting various administrative and operational functions. Your responsibilities may include assisting in routine maintenance tasks, including inspections and preventive maintenance development, maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, contract administration and assistance, working within maintenance technology, research, reporting, assist in projects and collaboration with other departments to address maintenance needs and improvements. This internship will allow you to gain practical experience in a professional maintenance environment, the opportunity to work on real projects, and mentorship and guidance from experienced maintenance professionals.
GENERAL PURPOSE
With general supervision, provides part-time employment opportunities for college level interns to perform job assignments that are closely related to their area of study. Any full-time college or graduate level student may apply for consideration for vacancies.
DISTIGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Total scheduled work hours shall not exceed 25 hours per work week (Monday through Friday). Intern positions do not include benefits and are not eligible to receive paid leave, paid holidays, retirement and/or any type of insurance.
POST GRADUATIONAt the discretion of the department appointment authority, Interns may continue to work up to 25 hours per week for up to two years following their graduation.

Hourly rate steps depend on the total number of semester/quarter units completed upon hire and while participating in the Intern Program. Interns must submit documentation from the school registrar to verify they have completed the coursework required and to advance to the next step in the pay schedule.
