BASIC JOB PURPOSE / SUMMARY:
The Marina Office Assistant provides a high level of customer service while promoting a friendly, professional reception area in an often high-paced environment. This position provides a variety of administrative functions such as answering phones, taking payments, emailing with customers, making RV and boat reservations, performing special projects, and balancing register daily.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Demonstrate workplace safety: follow all safety rules and guidelines, lead by example, and encourage safety practices in colleagues.
- Provide exceptional customer service by promoting a friendly and professional reception area while greeting and assisting the public.
- Perform primary receptionist duties such as front desk customer service and assistance, receive payments, answering phones and VHF radio, routing calls, and taking messages.
- Assist, as directed, in all aspects of office administration including, but not limited to, greeting customers, data entry, record keeping, filing, handling guest reservations, processing payments.
- Audit, monitor, and update guest moorage and RV park availability by processing reservations on the applicable software system, and inventory for accuracy.
- Prepare reservation signs and guest welcome bags.
- Ensure tidiness and the replenishment of all complimentary materials in the Marina office area.
- Perform other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as may be required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Some work will be performed sitting at a desk operating a computer and other related office equipment. Work performed outdoors may need to be done in all weather conditions and require walking and or standing for long periods of time on hard uneven surfaces often in wet and/or muddy environments. While working indoors, typically the noise level in the work environment is moderate. While working outdoors, the noise level may increase from moderate to high. Exposure to loud noises, both indoors and outdoors, is due to industrial, aviation, marine, maintenance, and repair activities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to hear, speak, understand, and clearly communicate the spoken English language, and the ability to read, write, and understand directions in English. Individuals must have the dexterity and manual skills required to operate the keyboard of a computer terminal, a radio communications device. This position also requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle and to maneuver through various types of terrain (asphalt, gravel, trails, wetlands and uneven surfaces) in the environment. This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods. Applicants must have the ability to push, pull, lift, lower, and maneuver items from ground to overhead and from side to side. Must have the physical ability to perform all essential functions of the job.
WORK PERFORMED
Examples of work performed include checking and responding to emails, voicemails, and tenant inquiries. Updating the marina’s occupancy logs and processing tenant payments. Assisting with set up of marina or other Port events. Handling various administrative tasks such as filing, maintaining professional workspace and office areas, Providing customer service through emails, phone calls, and in person communications.
TRAINING, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & RESPONSE TIME REQUIREMENTS
Formal Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or higher preferred.
Work Experience: Must be over the age of 18 and have a minimum of one year of experience in customer service-related duties including cash handling. Knowledge of boating/maritime industry and familiarity with vessel types and marine terminology desired. Knowledge of RV types and terminology desired.
Training/Certification/Licenses:
Valid Washington state drivers’ license (must be insurable)
Computer & Other Skills: Must be able to operate, maintain and create emails, documents and other programs associated with the position. Microsoft office basic knowledge and experience preferred. Must possess excellent organizational and multitasking skills. Customer Service and clear communication skills are necessary. Basic knowledge of marina operations and boating terminology preferred.

**The Port of Skagit offers an end-of-the-season bonus to seasonal employees who meet the criteria for eligibility. To be eligible, the seasonal employee must work 12 full weeks within the 2025 summer season (between the months of May to September 2025). Upon completion of eligibility requirements, seasonal employee may choose either a $1,000 end-of-season bonus paid directly to them, or a $2,500 tuition stipend paid directly to an accredited college, university, or trade school where the seasonal employee is actively enrolled.**
