What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Maintenance position at Port of Tacoma?
These positions will be responsible for assisting the Building & Grounds staff in the Maintenance Department with performing grounds work to include, but not limited to: maintaining right-of-ways, tops of banks, vegetation and storm water features. Duties include removing invasive vegetation such as blackberry, Scotch Broom, Butterfly Bush and Japanese Knotweed; maintaining native species and grasses; routine removal of sediment; snail eradication; and assisting with pruning/cutting trees, shrubs and grass by mechanical or hand-held devices. This is a great opportunity to learn about the different areas within a Maintenance department specific to ports.
These positions are expected to last up to three (3) months.
Graduation from an accredited High School or GED equivalent is required. Current enrollment or recent graduation from a technical college, community college or four-year college in the area of environmental, landscaping, or related area preferred.
Experience weeding, pruning and use of power equipment tools such as power mowers, blowers and weed eaters and any other experience in the trades are preferred.
The typical work schedule is Monday to Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM; must be able to work any shift and overtime as directed, both during the week and on weekends.
Work is performed at varying heights, over water and under piers; work is performed in all kinds of inclement weather and is strenuous and physically challenging. Must be able to lift 50-75 Ibs.
Must be able to operate lawn mower, weed eater, hedge trimmer, sprayer, edger, chainsaw, pickup truck, and fertilizer spreader.
