Local behavioral healthcare provider has an immediate opening for a Therapist.
Position Description:
As a member of the treatment team, The Therapist provides mental health and substance abuse counseling on an individual basis, and in-group settings. Provides assessment, treatment planning, and documentation in accordance with hospital standards.
Responsibilities:
1. Interviews patients, families and significant others, and evaluates the precipitating admission factors, emotional and psychological problems, available personal/community support systems, relevant family dynamics and financial/legal issues.
2. Determines specific disabilities and capabilities of each patient.
3. Develops therapeutic relationships with patients and significant others.
4. Assists in the formulation, implementation, evaluation, and modification of a clinically sound plan of care for assigned patients in conjunction with the attending psychiatrist.
5. Assess and follows-up on issues, concerning patients’ rights as related to the emergency admissions procedures, involuntary placement, etc.
6. Formulates therapeutic relationships, provides and/or facilitates groups, marital, family psychotherapy, patient education and/or individual psychotherapy as prescribed by the specific treatment protocol.
7. Coordinates discharge planning with families, program treatment team, agencies, and other community resources.
8. Participation as a vital member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team through consultation with team members regarding patient care.
9. Interfaces with families and physicians in resolving problems associated with the patient’s admission and ongoing hospitalization.
10. Participates in the establishment and maintenance of a full range of resources and information pertinent to the treatment plan.
11. Completes and utilizes all relevant documentation.
12. Contributes to the development of the respective professional discipline role within the department. Promotes a therapeutic milieu.
13. Selects and uses a comprehensive assessment process that is sensitive to age, gender, racial and ethnic, cultural issues.
14. Establishes accurate treatment and recovery expectations with the client and involved significant others.
15. Facilitates the client’s engagement in treatment and recovery process. Works with the client to establish realistic achievable goals with achieving and maintaining recovery.
16. Provides therapy in compliance with internal policies, external governing statues, and guideline including the JCAHO and Medicare.
17. Performs special projects when requested and required.
Education:
Master’s Degree in Social Work.
LSW, LCSW, LMHC or LMFC
CAP preferred.
Work Experience:
Minimum of two years of individual, group and family counseling in the mental health and substance abuse field.
Knowledge of Motivational Enhancement Techniques preferred.
