The Position:

A Training Coordinator in a Pulp mill is responsible for overseeing the training and development programs for employees to ensure they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to perform their jobs safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards. Job Responsibilities:

  • Training Program Development & Implementation:
    • Design, develop, and implement training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
    • Ensure training programs align with safety standards, quality assurance, environmental guidelines, and mill operational procedures.
    • Update and maintain training materials to reflect changes in mill processes or regulatory requirements.
  • Onboarding & Orientation:
    • Facilitate the departmental onboarding process for new hires, ensuring they receive proper safety, operational, and procedural training.
    • Conduct orientation sessions for new employees, familiarizing them with mill operations, policies, and safety protocols.
  • Performance Assessment & Evaluation:
    • Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback, tests, or performance reviews.
    • Identify skill gaps and work with department heads to develop corrective training solutions.
    • Maintain accurate records of training activities, certifications, and compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in training for the paper industry.
    • Recommend improvements to existing training programs based on feedback, assessments, and evolving needs.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with department managers and supervisors to identify training needs and priorities.
    • Collaborate with Safety Department to develop and administer safety training sessions to ensure all employees are compliant with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
    • Partner with Human Resources to manage employee development, career progression programs, and performance reviews.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive records of all training activities, attendance, and certification status.
    • Prepare reports for management on training completion rates, compliance issues, and employee development progress.
  • Equipment Training:
    • Ensure employees are trained in the safe operation and maintenance of pulpmill, and power and recovery machinery, from wood into the mill to pulp production (including steam generation and waste water/utilities)

Address specific technical training needs based on operational changes or new equipment installation.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, or related field preferred; or equivalent work experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in training coordination, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or paper mill environment.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of safety regulations and compliance.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to design and deliver effective training programs.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or other training software.
    • Safety-related certifications (e.g., OSHA, First Aid/CPR) preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • The position may require working in various environments within the paper mill, including potentially loud or hazardous areas. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
  • The role may involve shift work, depending on the mill's operation schedule.

Employment Terms

  • Full-time, exempt
  • Salary Range: $80,000 to $100,000
  • 3 weeks paid vacation
  • 9 paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.
