What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Officer position at Port William Police Department?
This is an auxillary position. We require officers to work 4, 4 hour shifts monthly, but there are opportunities for more hours.
```Duties:```
- Enforce laws and ordinances to maintain public order and safety
- Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity
- Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance as needed
- Conduct traffic stops and issue citations or warnings for traffic violations
- Investigate crimes, gather evidence, and interview witnesses
- Arrest individuals suspected of committing crimes and testify in court proceedings
- Write detailed reports documenting incidents, investigations, and arrests
- Provide support and assistance to other law enforcement agencies as required
```Requirements:```
- High school diploma or equivalent (some agencies may require a college degree)
- Completion of a police academy training program
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to handle conflict situations calmly and professionally
- Knowledge of criminal investigation techniques and procedures
- Familiarity with laws, regulations, and legal procedures related to law enforcement
- Physical fitness and ability to pass physical agility tests
- Ability to handle firearms safely and effectively
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
