What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESL (English Second Language) Teacher Assistant position at Portage Community Schools?
The Portage Community School District has an opening for an English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher Assistant. This position may potentially work with all grade levels. The goal of the ESL program is to support students in gaining English skills to perform both academically and socially within the school and community setting. The ESL teacher assistant will work with the ESL coordinator/teacher to implement lessons, activities, and supports designed by the ESL coordinator/teacher. The ESL teacher assistant also serves as a role model for students by displaying a professional and courteous attitude.
This position works only during the school year. Work days are the same as the school calendar, therefore the position does not work when school is closed (such as major holidays, Spring Break, etc.)
The ESL Teacher Assistant positions' hours and locations may change based upon enrollment and student need.
Qualifications:
Must have the ability to become a qualified teacher assistant by either:
a. Having a degree (Associate's or Bachelor's)
b. Having 30 credits of college
c. Or pass a test (administered once hired)
It is preferred, however not required, to be fluent and/or have experience with the Spanish language.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.55 per hour
