What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Worker - Juvenile Justice position at Portage County, WI?
The Portage County Health & Human Services department is hiring a full-time Social Worker for the Juvenile Justice section.
This position provides intake, dispositional, and case management/supervision services to a complex caseload involved in the Juvenile Justice system as defined by Wisconsin State Statute Chapter 938: The Juvenile Justice Code.
What are the primary job responsibilities?
Provide Juvenile Court Services to Delinquent Youth, and those referred to as Juveniles In Need of Protection or Services (JIPS).
- Perform court intake and dispositional services in accordance with Chapter 938 of the Wisconsin Statutes.
- Review referrals/reports, assess and identify the strengths and needs of the youth and family, determine delinquency risk levels, and comply with victim notification requirements.
- Consult with law enforcement, Court personnel, the District Attorney’s Office, Public Defenders, school officials, therapists, and other collateral contacts.
- Complete assessments, prepare court reports, attend and testify at hearings, and make recommendations regarding dispositions.
- Provide 24-hour juvenile intake services for Chapters 48 and 938.Complete required documentation of these services in compliance with state and federal standards and agency policies.
Provide Case Management and Supervision Services to Delinquent Youth, Juveniles in Need of Protection or Services, and their Families.
- Provide formal and informal supervision services to the youth and family, coordinate team meetings, evaluate effectiveness of treatment services, provide on-going assessment of delinquency risk levels.
- Determine and implement appropriate responses for court order violations.
- Coordinate electronic monitoring of youth and administer urinalysis screening as appropriate.
- Facilitate out of home placements as approved by agency protocol.
- Complete required documentation of these services in compliance with state and federal standards and agency policies.
What are the minimum qualifications?
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or other related human services field required.
- One year experience in the juvenile court system within the last five years required.
- Certification or eligibility for certification in Wisconsin as a social worker preferred.
- Any combination of education and experience necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
