Portage Township Schools is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and motivated individual to join our staff as an Assistant Athletic Director at Portage High School. The ideal candidate will be passionate about sports and education, possess strong leadership skills, and be committed to supporting the development of student-athletes. The Assistant Athletic Director will be primarily responsible for overseeing athletic event operations, ensuring seamless game-day execution and managing all on-site responsibilities.
Work Year:
Full-Time, 12 Months
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of teaching experience at the secondary level
- Successful coaching experience
- Evidence of strong leadership qualities
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Experience in supervision and evaluation of coaching personnel
- Possession of an Indiana teaching license
- Indiana Administrator license highly preferred
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative direction to all athletic programs and activities
- Supervise the purchase of equipment and maintenance of facilities
- Supervise all athletic staff
- Plan, implement, and promote athletic programs, including the scheduling of games, transportation, and officials
- Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring compliance with Indiana State Board of Accounts cash handling and management policies
- Collect and analyze departmental statistics and data
- Solicit community financial support for all athletic programs
- Collaborate with the high school principal in all athletic matters, including hiring and evaluating coaching staff
- Arrange media coverage for athletic events
- Represent the school corporation at professional meetings with other conference members and at state-level meetings
Event Management:
- Serve as the on-site administrator for athletic events
- Manage event staff, including ticket takers, security personnel, and volunteers
- Address any issues during events, such as disputes or emergencies
- Coordinate awards ceremonies, banquets, and recognition events
Scheduling Assistance:
- Assist in creating and confirming game and transportation schedules
- Communicate schedule changes to coaches, staff, and the community via Final Forms
- Distribute weekly athletic schedules to opposing schools to ensure smooth coordination
Game Day Operations:
- Notify officials, athletic staff, and teams of any schedule changes, cancellations, or venue adjustments
- Prepare and distribute athletic event information sheets, including details about game times, transportation, venue requirements, and expected attendance
Preferred Skills & Attributes:

- Knowledge of IHSAA rules and regulations
