PORTAGE LAKES CAREER CENTER is looking for a HIGH SCHOOL ELECTRICAL PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR for the 2025-2026 school year

Essential Functions (may include any of the following):
1. Develop and implement program curriculum including course syllabus based on approved programs of study, industry-based credentials and prevailing occupational standards
2. Create an environment for student learning that promotes fairness, maintains consistent standards of classroom behavior, and communicates challenging learning expectations while using instructional time effectively
3. Participate in developing the instructional program, procedures and learning goals: including writing courses of study, preparation of daily lessons, and evaluation of student progress (record keeping and grading process for students and monitoring students' understanding of content)
4. Develop and administer an effective safety program ensuring the safety and security of the classroom, instructional materials, and instructional equipment
5. Develop program budget requests
6. Assist with career guidance and job placement for students; promote good work habits and attitudes in employer/employee relationships
7. Communicate with parents/guardians about student learning; submitting student grades and reports as required
8. Coordinate an active program advisory committee of potential employers and advisors that represents all aspects of the industry and supports non-traditional membership
9. Coordinate program participation in vocational student organization skills contests
10. Perform other duties as requested by District administrators
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university or at least five (5) years' recent documented work experience directly related to the Electrical field (Lineman experience preferred). Preferred candidate should possess the necessary industry credentials relevant to the program field
2. Hold a teaching license or certificate issued by the State of Ohio appropriate to subject assignment. A qualified candidate who does not already possess the appropriate Career Technical teaching license must be willing to take college coursework over an extended period of time (must be completed within four (4) years) that will lead to the appropriate Career Technical teaching license and apply for a supplemental license to be used while engaged in the licensure coursework.
3. Experience with the industry and technologies related to the development, deployment, and operation of private and public utilities
4. Experience with the operation of the equipment of the trade including but not limited to Aerial equipment, Mobilization equipment, and Excavation equipment
5. Experience with safely working on energized and de-energized transmission and distribution equipment and facilities
6. Experience with safely climbing wood poles and steel towers
7. Computer technology skills as necessary for the position
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents, fellow employees, and the community
9. Candidate must also be eager to pursue industry credentials within the classroom setting and have the desire to work with outside entities to promote collaboration and program articulation with higher education
10. Pass BCI and FBI records check and/or other district pre-employment requirements
11. The employee may not be under the influence of alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District

1. Use of keyboards and exposure to computer screens
2. Use of electrical equipment
3. Possible exposure to bodily fluids
4. Possible exposure to sharp instruments
5. Possible exposure to airborne particles
6. Light physical exertion in moving items, lifting, and reaching
