Structural Steel Estimator

Porter Industries is a Steel Fabrication shop located in Franklin Furnace, Ohio in search of an Estimator for 1st shift (4 –10-hour days, 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, occasional overtime).

Education and Experience:

• High school education or equivalent
• Past estimation experience in a structural steel fabrication environment is preferred. However, would be willing to train an individual with prior experience, knowledge and understanding of the structural steel industry
• Experience in the structural steel industry is non-negotiable
• Read blueprints/drawings

Ideal candidates should possess:

• Knowledge and understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection terminology and practices
• Knowledge and understanding of general construction industry terminology and practices
• Ability to read and interpret industry documents, including design drawings and specification/bid documentation
• Ability to estimate labor hours and material costs to perform scope of work cost effectively without sacrificing quality
• Ability to find creative and inventive ways to produce custom, quality products in an efficient manner
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prepare pricing estimates, including developing a takeoff of all material and labor
• Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to efficiently handle multiple projects to meet tight deadlines
• Ability to interact with customers and manage expectations with a high degree of professionalism and courtesy
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to communicate with outside vendors
• Problem solving capabilities and desire to improve processes

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to safely use and lift equipment weighing 50 pounds (potentially 100 pounds with assistance)
• Ability to work while standing or sitting for long periods of time
• Ability to bend, stoop, walk and climb
• Ability to work in adverse weather or temperature conditions
• Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment
• Ability to occasionally drive to and evaluate various job sites
