Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in the rehabilitation department, assisting licensed Occupational Therapists (OTs) in delivering high-quality patient care. Under the supervision of an OT, the COTA helps implement treatment plans, supports patient progress, and ensures documentation meets all regulatory and reimbursement requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Treatment Implementation
- Assist in executing patient treatment plans as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
- Work closely with patients and families to support rehabilitation goals.
- Monitor and report patient progress or any changes in condition to the OT.
- Ensure patient safety at all times during therapy sessions.
- Coordinate treatment goals and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with facility, department, and insurance requirements.
- Submit patient charges promptly to support proper billing and reimbursement.
- Adhere to licensing, certification, and regulatory standards for documentation and treatment.
Communication & Team Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and team members.
- Participate in team meetings as directed by the Director of Rehabilitation or Supervisor.
- Provide constructive feedback to rehab aides to enhance team performance.
Professional Development & Department Support
- Attend in-service training, educational sessions, and professional development activities.
- Stay informed of patient needs, community programs, and industry best practices.
- Maintain valid licensure and certification as required by the state.
- Support department operations and contribute to a positive work environment.
Qualifications & Expectations
- Valid COTA licensure in Oregon
