Position Summary

Portland Community College's ThinkBIG Caterpillar Diesel Technology program is seeking a new full-time faculty member. The ThinkBIG program is a recognized leader in preparing future technicians for the evolving industry. We are currently looking for a full-time faculty member who has up-to-date automotive repair knowledge to teach a variety of courses in our field. Examples of such courses may include : Engine Fundamentals, Engine Fuel Systems, Hydraulic Fundamentals, Generators and EPG Calculations. We are committed to serving all students through culturally responsive educational practices. We seek a full-time faculty member who is committed to using cultural knowledge, prior lived experiences, and diverse frames of reference to make learning encounters more relevant to all genders and ethnicities.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.

Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

  • Demonstrated current technical knowledge of Diesel equipment repair, with recent

heavy equipment repair industry experience.

  • Recent teaching or training experience, and success in lecture and practical training
  • environments (particularly in the field of Diesel / Heavy equipment and Electric power

    generation service repair).

  • Demonstrated proficiency using technology (for example MS Office), including
  • presentation, instructional or training software applications.

  • Remains current in the field and demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional
  • development.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to a culture of safety.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of the need to teach industry-specific content in ways
  • that value and include differences in individual experiences, cultural, ethnic, gender,

    linguistic diversity and socioeconomic status.

    Minimum Qualifications

    To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

    Education

  • AAS degree or higher in Diesel / Heavy Equipment service technology from an accredited institution.
  • Must start CIAP and CEP III certification training within 2 years of hire.
  • Note : Related Instruction qualifications follow the Experience section below.

    Experience :

    A combination of Diesel / Heavy equipment teaching experience in an accredited institution and / or Diesel / Heavy Equipment service and repair experience in a commercial repair facility equal to 5 full years, and have :

  • Experience living / working in multicultural, multi-ethnic environment
  • Current and Valid Driver's License with clean driving record with the ability to
  • complete PCC driver's training

  • Ability to operate typical heavy equipment service machinery and complete training
  • for new equipment as necessary

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Caterpillar heavy equipment maintenance, basic repair and advanced
  • repair.

  • Experience with CAT electric power generation.
  • Experience with Caterpillar service software (CAT ET and SIS 2.0)

    Starting Salary Expectations

    Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($73,911) and Step 3 (78,408) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.

    Position Grade Salary Range

    73911 to $118558 Annual Salary

    PCC Benefits

    PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS / OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS / OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

    Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

  • Please note : Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.
  • Paid Leave :

    1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)

    21 hours of additional personal leave per year

    4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

    Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.

    Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.
