Summary

As a Grid and Market Settlements Analyst, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of energy market settlements within the California ISO. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex data analysis, collaborate with external partners, and contribute to critical financial processes that support the energy market. You’ll be responsible for identifying trends, resolving discrepancies, and driving improvements in settlement practices.

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and analytical professional with a deep understanding of energy markets and settlement processes. We're hiring for a position open to both P3 and P4 level candidates. The level will be determined based on the successful applicant's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated skills during the interview process.

Senior Grid & Market Operations Analyst 6546

Key Responsibilities

Grid & Market Operations Analyst (P3)

  • Collect, organize, and interpret data from PGE’s participation in the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM), PGE’s portfolio of data-generating assets, as well as data available from the CAISO market participant portal, and publicly available reports and datasets.
  • Independently identify financial and operational improvement through complex analytics.
  • Provide actionable feedback on PGE’s performance in the EIM to Power Operations, Grid, and management; follow changes to the Market rules (e.g., Western Energy Imbalance Market, Extended Day-Ahead Market) in order to identify needed changes to PGE operational systems.

Grid Operations

  • Provide operational analyses, including interpreting operational decision impacts in the context of both financial performance and reliability, data management, and information sharing.
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities for grid operations in the context of market opportunities.
  • Identify business solutions to operational changes that result from market design and enhancements.

Analytic Tools

  • Analyze and validate settlements for PGE Scheduling Coordinators and Day-Ahead market activity, or allocations to PGE transmission customers.
  • Identify trends to optimize operations, research market issues, and dispute settlement/data errors.
  • Identify root causes of data anomalies, including market, operations, scheduling, and meter data, and develop and recommend solutions to prevent future errors.
  • Design, develop, and implement analytic tools and procedures to evaluate and forecast energy and transmission economic opportunities, including financial instruments and regulatory strategies; build business logics in a database and maintain the database.

Communications and Presentations

  • Prepare and distribute market update communications and presentations, including natural gas and electric power analytics/forecasts, to grid and power operations staff and other internal stakeholders to support operating strategies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of technical seminars for operations staff, traders, external clients, and others.
  • Contribute to operating strategy meetings with grid and power operations hourly staff and management.

External Relations

  • Participate in energy-related forums and meetings with other utilities and Governmental and regulatory agencies to share/exchange information.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in preparing, filing, and presenting regulatory filings.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Research and analyze development, applicability, and implementation of energy-related regulations, orders, and statutes.
  • Recommend changes in daily business processes that will ensure compliance with all regulations.

Senior Grid & Market Operations Analyst (P4)

  • Research market design and grid operations; analyze trends and report recommendations for new or changed products/strategies.
  • Follow changes to the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) rules in order to integrate market changes into PGE operational systems.

Grid Operations

  • Provide operational analyses, including interpreting operational decision impacts in the context of financial performance and reliability, data management, and information sharing.
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities for grid operations in the context of market opportunities.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for operational enterprise-wide projects that bridge both the trading floor and grid operations floor.
  • Set and implement data strategy in collaboration with management; lead cross-functional teams in developing strategies.
  • Provide training and guidance on evaluating projects and trading strategies to less experienced colleagues.

Analytic Tools

  • Design, develop, and implement analytic tools and procedures to evaluate and forecast energy and transmission economic opportunities, including financial instruments and regulatory strategies.
  • Build and maintain complex business logics in a database and maintain the database.
  • Provide training and guidance on analytic tools to less experienced colleagues.

Communications and Presentations

  • Develop market and grid performance reports and presentations, including natural gas and electric power analytics/forecasts.
  • Present reports and analyses to senior management, grid and power operations staff, and other internal stakeholders to support operating strategies.
  • Develop technical seminars for operations staff, traders, external clients, and others.
  • As a recognized authority, conduct trading strategy meetings with grid and power operations hourly staff and management.

External Relations

  • As a recognized authority on energy markets and grid operational reliability, participate in energy-related forums or lead meetings with other utilities and Governmental and regulatory agencies to share/exchange information.
  • Lead or participate with cross-functional teams in preparing, filing, and presenting regulatory filings.
  • Represent PGE’s interests in regulatory and rate case proceedings.

Regulatory Compliance

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Certifications

Grid & Market Operations Analyst (P3)

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in IT, finance, business, economics, engineering, or another science field.
  • Typically five or more years in the energy industry or a related field.
  • Experience in operational analytics preferred.

Senior Grid & Market Operations Analyst (P4)

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in IT, finance, business, economics, engineering, or another science field.
  • Typically eight or more years in the energy industry or a related field.
  • Experience in operational analytics preferred.

PGE supports hybrid flexible work arrangements; and will have a combination of in-the-office and working offsite. However, these arrangements may change due to business needs or changes in responsibility. Employees should live within 75 miles of their designated work location.

Compensation Range:

$87,225.00 - $173,875.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
