SUMMARY

As an Associate T&D Line Design Engineer, you will have the unique opportunity to design and execute planned capital transmission and distribution improvements for Portland General Electric. You will apply your engineering expertise to develop designs for overhead and underground distribution and transmission line projects ranging from 12.5 kV to 500 kV, contributing to PGE's mission of providing clean, reliable energy.

A successful candidate will plan and implement the design, procurement, construction and/or maintenance of electric transmission and distribution lines, including conductor systems, hardware, structures and foundations, for the transmission and distribution of electric power. You will also provide transmission and distribution project management expertise resulting in cost effective, reliable and workable construction designs and customer connections as well as provide technical engineering support for transmission and distribution construction and maintenance projects. In this role you will develop designs for new overhead transmission and overhead and underground distribution facilities as well as upgrades and maintenance of existing facilities and provide technical support to construction crews in the field.

This role offers exciting challenges in shaping the future of Oregon's energy infrastructure, allowing you to work supporting the design of transmission projects while making a tangible impact on the region's power network.

  • This position is open to both an Associate/p1 or a T&D Line Engineer p2 level.  The level will be determine based on the successful applicant’s qualification, experience, and demonstrated skills during the interview process. See determining qualifications below. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Associate / P1

  • Engineering Standards: All Engineering - Applies engineering education and training in advancing professional knowledge of engineering processes and standards and independently applies knowledge to assignments with occasional guidance on request.
  • Engineering Standards: Line Design Function - Applies knowledge of design software, LiDAR, infrared cameras, UV cameras, etc. to suggest workflow enhancements; develops applied professional engineering knowledge of distribution design techniques, applicable codes, and regulations through assignments in support of complex projects.
  • Engineering Production: All Engineering - Prepares engineering deliverables as member of engineering support/project team.
  • Production: Line Design Function - Provides engineering designs for overhead and underground distribution and transmission line projects ranging from 12.5 kV to 500 kV; evaluates possible alternatives to meet project requirements, including line routing, site preparation, facility siting, conduit design, structure design, foundation design, specifications and material orders.
  • Project Coordination: All Engineering - Coordinates with other professional engineers on project team; shares information and professional opinions in executing project tasks.
  • Project Coordination: Line Design Function - Assists senior engineers with the design and analysis of transmission and distribution projects (from 12.5 kV to 500 kV), both capital and maintenance, including the development of plans, specifications, estimates and schedules; contributes to initial scoping and preliminary design through construction and as-built documentation.
  • Knowledge Sharing: All Engineering - Expands professional knowledge of latest technology and processes; shares knowledge with other colleagues.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS – P1 Level

Education

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.

Experience

  • Typically two or fewer years in engineering.
  • Valid Drivers License required

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – P2 Level

  • Engineering Standards: All Engineering Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices and independently applies professional knowledge of engineering processes and standards to assignments/projects.
  • Engineering Standards: Line Design Function Leverages knowledge across design software, LiDAR, infrared cameras, UV cameras, etc. to enhance workflow efficiency; applies engineering theories and concepts to enhance engineering proficiency and technical knowledge of distribution design techniques, applicable codes, and regulations.
  • Engineering Production: All Engineering Prepares a variety of moderately complex engineering deliverables.
  • Production: Line Design Function Provides engineering designs for overhead and underground distribution and transmission line projects ranging from 12.5 kV to 500 kV; evaluates possible alternatives to meet project requirements, including line routing, site preparation, facility siting, conduit design, structure design, foundation design, specifications and material orders.
  • Project Coordination: All Engineering Assigns tasks and coordinates with other internal/external team members on assigned projects; shares information and provides professional guidance in executing project tasks.
  • Project Coordination: Line Design Function Independently contributes to the design and analysis of transmission and distribution projects (from 12.5 kV to 500 kV), both capital and maintenance, including the development of plans, specifications, estimates and schedules; completes initial scoping and preliminary design through construction and as-built documentation.
  • Knowledge Sharing: All Engineering Shares current knowledge of latest technology and processes; may assist with mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS – P2 Level

Education

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering. ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.

Experience

  • Typically two or more years in engineering.
  • Experience using PLS-CADD and PLS-Pole.
  • Experience with PLS-Tower, AutoCAD and LPILE a plus.

Certifications, Licenses and Training

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.
  • Valid Drivers License required

PGE supports hybrid flexible work arrangements; and will have a combination of in-the-office and working offsite. However, these arrangements may change due to business needs or changes in responsibility.

Compensation Range:

$71,325.00 - $140,750.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
