Position Summary:
Gallery Ambassadors are vital to protecting the artwork and providing an exceptional visitor experience at the Portland Museum of Art (PMA). By ensuring safety and accessibility, this role supports PMA’s mission of enriching lives through art.
Job Functions:
- Museum Safety and Art Protection
- Patrols galleries to ensure the safety and preservation of artworks from visitor-related risk.
- Monitors visitor traffic to maintain orderly and safe navigation through the gallery spaces.
- Enforces the PMA’s guidelines and safety protocols.
- Responds promptly to emergencies, including fire, evacuation, and medical situations.
- Attentive to visitor inquiries, feedback, and concerns.
- Reports safety and artwork incidents.
- Assists in maintaining clean, uncluttered, and hazard-free public spaces.
- Visitor Engagement and Experience
- Provides information about museum exhibitions, programs, and events.
- Promotes the PMA's additional offerings such as the museum store and café.
- Engages in gallery programming and provides educational resources to visitors.
- Attends trainings, meetings, exhibitions, and preview walkthroughs.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration
- Collaborates on special projects, as needed.

Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 1–3 years of education, hospitality, retail, or visitor services, preferred.
- A combination of related education, certifications, and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and incident reporting, preferred.
- Familiarity with museum operations and program support, preferred.
- Multi-lingual, preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification, preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Work Environment: In-person at the PMA or affiliated sites, covering public internal and external areas.
Physical Demands: Extensive standing and walking; clear verbal communication; occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
Exposures: Fluctuating noise levels; large crowds; outdoor exposure during events..
