What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nanny with Special Needs Experience position at Portland Nanny?
At Portland Nanny, we are seeking an empathetic, kind, and playful nanny for a 7 year old is on the autism spectrum. The family is hoping to be able to have one nanny provide consistent care and support for his emotional and social needs. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children with special needs and be sensitive to their unique needs, especially with regard to social-emotional regulation.
Job Responsibilities:
- Greet their child as he gets off the bus and help him transition from school to home.
- Engage in fun activities such as imaginary play, dance parties, board games, and video games.
- Provide positive encouragement and support, guiding him through challenges with gentle suggestions and praise.
- Assist with any schoolwork or homework if necessary.
- Help him with snacks, and possibly take him to the park for outdoor play.
- Outside of normal schedule, they are hoping when mom travels you would be able to assist with morning routines that would be pre-discussed and arranged ahead of time.
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience working with children on the autism spectrum.
- Demonstrates kindness, empathy, and patience, especially during moments of frustration or disappointment.
- Understands the importance of avoiding harsh language or stern approaches, as these can be counterproductive.
- Must be proactive, responsible, and able to help manage social and emotional situations with sensitivity.
Schedule:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
- Wednesday: 12:30 PM – 4:00 PM
- Occasional morning assistance on travel days (to be arranged in advance).
