    ABOUT LYSETH:
As a school community at Lyseth, we work collaboratively to ensure all students feel a sense of belonging and that all students are engaged in grade level learning every day. Each morning, classrooms begin in a circle, running a morning meeting focused on belonging and building social emotional skills. We are committed to teaching explicit and systematic foundational literacy skills in all K-2 classrooms, and additionally, use EL literacy curriculum in all K-5 classrooms. We use Illustrative Mathematics as our math curriculum and student inquiry and engagement is important to our philosophy of teaching and learning. We teach Wabanaki Studies across K-5 and we are working on infusing in Amplify Science Units. Data is core to teaching at our school and we deeply value the power of collective efficacy and professional learning communities. We also believe in coaching and supporting teachers and have a literacy and math coach that prioritize time in classrooms with teachers working on Tier 1 instruction.

As a school community, we are committed to implementing anti-racist systems and practices, including restorative practices for our discipline policy. We require and support our staff with continually examining their own identities and biases and engage regularly in necessary conversations about race and equity. As a school community, we uphold these values: Black Lives Matter and students and families who speak multiple languages are an asset to our school. These values guide our Lyseth community as we commit to social justice and consistently working towards becoming an anti-racist school.

Lyseth staff are part of the larger Portland community. Teaching in PPS is an incredible opportunity to work alongside talented, committed staff who are uniquely positioned to amplify the potential of our students by creating a school experience that affirms, values, and challenges them each day. Portland Public Schools is dedicated to providing a rich academic experience to support every student’s path to success.
