What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver - 40 hours School Year (Multiple Openings) - Transportation position at Portland Public Schools?
Under general supervision, operates a school bus in transporting children to and from schools. Employees in this class are responsible for following an assigned route and schedule in the safe and efficient operation of a school bus. At all times operates a school bus obeying all applicable federal, state, and local traffic laws and the enforcement of Portland Public Schools Student Bus Conduct Code. Inspects, performs minor maintenance, and cleans assigned vehicle.
- High School or GED diploma required.
- Two to four years of driving experience; prior experience as a school bus driver preferred.
- Successful experience interacting with children
- Twenty-one (21) years of age, and having held operator’s license for three years
- Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License, with P and S endorsements and no air brake restrictions.
- Certification in First aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) procedures highly desirable.
- Ability to meet prescribed pre-employment and annual physical examination requirements.
- Ability to complete pre- and post-trip bus inspections. Ability to lift heavy objects 50 lb minimum.
- Must be able to sit for long period of time in the bus driver’s seat, reach the steering wheel and pedals, and wear the seat belt properly every day.
- Must pass USDOT pre-employment physical examination, criminal background check, and drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to work overtime to complete required bus routes/trips. No more than two current points on the driving record and a satisfactory past driving record.
- Must furnish a driving record of the previous three (3) years free of the following:
- No convictions for a felony
- No convictions for operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- No more than two moving violations in the past twenty-four (24) months
- Ability to pass a supervised road test
- Ability to provide two (2) personal references
