About the Role

Portland Rock Gym is looking for a creative, strategic, and community-driven Marketing Manager to grow our brand, engage our climbing community, and drive membership and event participation. If you love climbing, understand the culture, and have a knack for storytelling, social media, and digital strategy, this is the perfect role for you.

As Marketing Manager, you’ll work closely with the Director of Marketing and Graphic Designer to develop and execute marketing initiatives that attract new climbers, retain members, and amplify PRG’s presence in the outdoor and fitness space. You will also oversee PRG’s email marketing efforts in Mailchimp and manage website updates in WordPress, ensuring our digital presence is engaging and up to date.

What You’ll DoContent & Brand Strategy (40%)
  • Develop and execute a content strategy that reflects PRG’s community values and climbing culture.
  • Work with the Graphic Designer to create visually engaging marketing materials for social media, emails, website updates, and in-gym signage.
  • Maintain a consistent and authentic brand voice across all platforms.
Digital Marketing, Email & Website Management (30%)
  • Manage and grow PRG’s social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube) by creating engaging, community-driven content.
  • Run email marketing campaigns in Mailchimp that keep members informed and attract new climbers.
  • Oversee website updates in WordPress, ensuring content is fresh, engaging, and aligned with PRG’s goals.
  • Track and analyze performance using Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite, and other tools to measure success and optimize future campaigns.
 Community Engagement & Public Relations (15%)
  • Build partnerships with local outdoor brands, gear shops, and fitness businesses to expand PRG’s reach.
  • Write and distribute press releases and seek out media opportunities to highlight PRG’s events and offerings.
  • Represent PRG at climbing comps, outdoor festivals, and community events to strengthen our connection with the climbing world.
Project & Team Management (15%)
  • Oversee marketing campaign execution, ensuring everything stays on track and aligns with PRG’s goals.
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Graphic Designer to coordinate efforts across platforms.
  • Maintain an organized marketing calendar to ensure smooth planning of promotions, events, and content.
Who You Are
  • 3-5 years of marketing experience in digital marketing, content strategy, or brand management.
  • A strong writer who knows how to craft engaging social media content, email campaigns, and website copy.
  • Experienced with paid advertising (Meta Ads, Google Ads, etc.) and analyzing performance data.
  • Proficient in social media management tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Later, etc.).
  • Skilled in email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Klaviyo, or similar) and comfortable with website management (WordPress or similar CMS).
  • Familiar with SEO, analytics tracking, and optimizing web content for engagement and conversion.
  • A passionate rock climber who loves the sport, the community, and the culture. We’re looking for someone who actively climbs and has been for at least 2 years, whether spending every free moment at the crag, or a weekend warrior at your local gym.
