Portland Yacht Services is seeking an experienced Outboard Technician to join our team. We specialize in the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of outboard engines and related systems. If you have hands-on experience with major outboard brands, strong troubleshooting skills, and a passion for the marine industry, we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose & repair outboard engines, including Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Honda, and Evinrude
  • Perform routine maintenance – oil changes, fuel system inspections, and water pump replacements
  • Troubleshoot electrical and fuel system issues
  • Install new outboard motors and rigging components
  • Repair & install steering systems, throttle controls, and related accessories
  • Conduct engine performance testing and sea trials as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used
  • Ensure all work meets manufacturer specifications & industry safety standards
  • Communicate with service advisors & customers regarding diagnostics and repair recommendations
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas

 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience as an outboard technician or marine mechanic (certifications preferred)
  • Knowledge of outboard engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, and rigging
  • Strong diagnostic & problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read & interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Familiarity with marine diagnostic tools & software
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship
  • Ability to work independently & as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Manufacturer certifications (Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Honda, etc.) are a plus
