Essential Duties:

  • Work independently to adjust claim files
  • Receive claim notices, establish claim files both electronic and paper, input data, investigate claims, maintain and update claims filings
  • Responsible for timely reporting and other entities requiring filing of first reports and other notifications
  • While the position is primarily responsible for adjusting of liability, property, and cargo damage claims there may be some involvement in USL&H claim files.
  • Manage all aspects of claims through completion of claim files for all coverages and exposures
  • Research and information gathering regarding claims, ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
  • Decision making to set appropriate reserves for potential exposure and loss and set up claim files in claims system
  • Review and interpret medical, incident investigation, police, and legal reports to guide decision making on file direction and strategy within authority limits
  • Complete necessary reporting and filing of all forms in compliance with statutory and timeliness requirements
  • Investigate claims and take statements of all parties involved in any potential loss incident
  • Handle written and verbal correspondence and communication with claimants, customers, appraisers, surveyors, investigators, and attorneys
  • Under direction of Claims Management, arrange for legal representation and assist in preparation of defense
  • Review and approve invoices, assist in the audit of invoices to determine reasonableness
  • Input payments and provide appropriate support for all payment requests
  • Ensure accurate payment data for each weekly check run with review of batch edit reports
  • Handle status request for unresolved claims and outstanding invoices
  • Provide Safety Dept. with necessary information and reports concerning number and type of accidents
  • Maintain up to date claim diaries and notes within claims management system
  • Ongoing communication with operations and HSE in management of claims
  • Attendance at operations and safety meetings and present claims background as appropriate with claims training of regional operations
  • Direct and manage claims admins in support of claims process and documentation of claim files
  • Administrative duties of mail, copying, filing and routine phone calls as needed
  • Work effectively with remote staff to process claims
  • Available off hours for accidents reported as serious
  • Must be willing to travel for several weeks at a time for training in regional offices or meetings
  • Ability to work efficiently and resourcefully with minimum supervision
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements (Education, Experience, Certifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of claims liability adjuster experience
  • 3 years claims administration or equivalent insurance industry

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of claims liability adjuster experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate skills in Excel and Word.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Highly organized with keen attention to detail.
