We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Engineering Manager to join our team and lead the maintenance efforts for our rolling stock and terminal facilities. This role is critical in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of our equipment fleet that plays a key role in the smooth movement of cargo.

Essential Duties:
- Lead, train, recruit, develop and manage a high-performing team of ILA mechanics and maintenance technicians to ensure efficient and timely completion of all engineering and maintenance tasks.
- Ensures compliance with all safety regulations, environmental and safety regulatory bodies and industry standards. Support all company safety procedures and the use of safety gear.
- Work in coordination with Corporate Engineering to create and implement comprehensive maintenance plans, including preventive maintenance schedules, reliability improvements and emergency response procedures for equipment to ensure maximum availability at a minimum total cost of ownership.
- Apply engineering principles and structure to identify and troubleshooting issues on equipment, develop effective solutions, and implement corrective actions.
- Work closely with vessel and terminal operations for the timely execution of planned and scheduled maintenance, considering equipment utilization, resource allocation, active operations support and downtime minimization.
- Working in concert with site leadership and Corporate Engineering, champion the development of an overall equipment strategy, incorporating capital needs, technological changes/advancements, industry trends and requirements, while supporting overall terminal growth objectives.
- Ensure reporting is timely and accurate and that maintenance records are complete, thorough, and available for inspection.
- Accountable for the day-to-day safe and cost-efficient management of vessel and terminal equipment, assets, and facilities, each managed with due consideration for their operational criticality and expected lifetime.
- Effectively manage inventory levels, accuracy, and the timely issuance of materials and parts into the field. Align the volume of on-site, consignment and vendor stocked parts to consumption rates and system maturity levels.
- Develop and maintain processes to monitor equipment warranties and ensure claims under warranty are filed timely.
- Develop reports and other communications to ensure operations are aware of current equipment availability and maintenance KPIs
- Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors, manage contracts, and oversee the quality of their work.
- Develop and manage the department budget within guidelines and annual goals ensuring cost-effective utilization of all resources.
- Ensure that ILA and management team members work effectively and efficiently as a team and with the Operations group to ensure optimum equipment availability.
- Follows Labor contract requirements with respect to union personnel.
Physical Working Attributes:

- The environment may be hazardous to persons unable to see or hear fast moving heavy equipment
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering OR 5 years practical engineering experience
- 5 years of supervisory experience in maintenance areas pertaining to marine terminal, manufacturing, or related heavy industry, including working with maintenance planning and scheduling specialists.
- Department budgeting including profit and loss management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluent in Spanish, with the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to support a diverse and multilingual workforce
- Technical knowledge of maintenance and repair of loaded container handlers, and/or other equipment dedicated to marine terminal environments.
- Knowledge of terminal and stevedoring operations, especially the coordination of cranes with vessel activity.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, layouts, and specifications.
- Solid knowledge of applicable federal, state, and company safety regulations; including familiarity of OSHA, National Electrical Code and all other regulations, such as welding and electrical standards, that are required, both locally and at the state and federal level.
- High level of planning and organizational skills, with high attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, especially technical problems of a highly complex nature.
- Good interpersonal skills and strong internal customer focus.
- Solid management/team-building skills, preferably in a union environment; exposure to or experience with union contracts.
- Ability to work collaboratively with operational, financial, and commercial managers.
- A strong understanding of IT/systems utilization within engineering and maintenance.
- Exceptional time management and organization skills, due to a fast-moving, demanding work environment.
- Requires the ability to respond quickly and thoughtfully in a fast-paced environment.
- Computer skills, including computerized maintenance management systems.
