As an Terminal Manager, you'll help lead our teams in maintaining high standards of operational efficiency while prioritizing the safety of all team members. Job Overview:
As Terminal Manager, you'll provide leadership and direction for the yard, trucking gate, planning, and vessel operations for the site. You will direct and supervise the work of local Operations Managers and Assistant Operations Managers to ensure safe, efficient and productive deliverables. The Terminal Manager is accountable for achieving operational and financial goals while remaining within specified budget guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and safety.
- Drive operational performance improvements, cost savings, and service delivery metrics.
- Oversee logistics, route planning, and fleet management to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments, such as procurement, customer service, and safety teams.
- Develop and implement strategies for continuous operational improvement, including leveraging technology and data analytics.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
- Manage and develop a team of operational staff, providing coaching and professional growth opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Ensure positive relations with labor and union officials and that labor policies and union contracts are understood and
- Develop, communicate and maintain operating and administrative procedures (consistent with area procedures and objectives) designed to provide required information and facilitate internal practices.
- Ensure that all Ports America policies, procedures and controls are followed and that required reports are completed accurately, submitted on time to appropriate staff members, customers and other designated personnel, and that appropriate staff and labor have a full understanding of these procedures.
- Support Ports America commercial goals by participating in activities through new business development and long-term customer contracts.
- Ensure high levels of productivity and efficiency by assessing operational practices and procedures, and by developing and executing appropriate plans, and directing the stevedoring and terminal activities.
- Work closely with planners, front-line management, vessel operators and their agents in developing efficient and appropriate plans to load / unload
- Evaluate and determine appropriate labor and equipment requirements for each vessel, ensuring availability of labor, and that equipment is available and in efficient and safe working conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 7 years of progressive management experience in Maritime, Transportation, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or union environment with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role
- Proven track record in operational excellence, managing large-scale transportation operations, and driving process improvements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven track record in operational excellence, managing large-scale transportation operations, and driving process improvements.
- Knowledge of terminal operations, planning and stevedore
- Experience with computerized operating
- Experience with related union contracts and managing
- Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations, and related industry governmental
- Obtain and maintain TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) issued by the Department of Homeland Security
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
- Experience with data analytics and performance metrics to drive decision-making.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and influence stakeholders.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Willingness to relocate to New Orleans and embrace the unique culture and opportunities the city offers.
- Working knowledge of managerial and leadership principles, with the ability to influence other management team members and lead a department of technically proficient individuals.
- Familiar with all aspects of the systems, support for the terminal, including software applications, equipment and workflow.
- Extensive knowledge of safety, health and environmental issues as they affect the workplace, including local regulations, national requirements, and governmental agency
