What are the responsibilities and job description for the Extended School Year (ESY) Coordinator position at Portsmouth School Department?
DESCRIPTION: The Extended School Year (ESY) Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising the extended school year program for students with disabilities who require special education services and programming as part of their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Assist in scheduling all students for ESY programming using the data provided by the Director of Student Services. Coordinator will review IEPs to coordinate scheduling, and work with special education teachers and specialists as needed.
•Review and finalize transportation sheets for all students requiring transportation during the ESY program and communicating these needs to the bus company. Schedule transportation for field trips and community activities.
•Supervise the program during time of operation, serving as liaison between the summer staff faculty and the Student Services Office. Coordinator will report to the Director of Student Services during summer programming.
•Serve as contact person for families as needed during the summer programming.
• Ensure that district policy/practice regarding student safety is followed: student dismissal, medical issues, evacuation for fire, etc.
•Facilitate an "orientation" for program faculty, staff prior to start-up, as well as assuring that classrooms, materials and schedules are in place.
•Daily supervision of program with special emphasis on troubleshooting problems during the first week of programming.
•Serve as on-site contact person for phone calls regarding students and programming.
•Coordinate and plan for substitute staff when needed.
•Manage the lunch program for students in full day programs.
•Organize and facilitate the relocation of equipment and supplies to designated summer classrooms.
•Order and distribute classroom supplies
•Purchase and deliver food/drink items to classrooms
•Maintain ongoing communication with the Director Student Services.
REQUIREMENTS: Current RIDE certification as a special educator and/or general educator, certification or coursework in school leadership preferred. The position will require some responsibilities, delegated by the Director Student Services prior to the start of the summer programs.
