TITLE: Long Term Substitute - Math needed immediately for approximately 5 weeks to fill a leave of absence REPORTS TO: Building Administrator DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: N / AThis position is at Portsmouth Middle School(SUMMARY) JOB DESCRIPTION: Under direction of the school principal and/ or appropriate supervisor, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conductive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.

Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university CERTIFICATE / LICENSE REQUIRED: Certificate by the Rhode Island State Department of Education. Current Rhode Island Teacher Certificate in the appropriate subject area and level required. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES: 1. Supports the implementation of a comprehensive arts program2.

Understands and applies effective strategies and best practices to ensure student success3. Participates in district and school-based professional development activities4. Collaborates with school personnel and/or parents to coordinate the delivery of service to students5. Administers a variety of student assessment tools6.

Develops and maintains positive and cooperative interactions and communications with parents, colleagues and community7. Takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities8. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by the district and state laws9. Assists school personnel in assessing instructional materials and equipment needed for the arts program10.

Provides leadership for instructionally-based students activities and events11. Assists with the coordination of fine arts programs for the enrichment of all students12. Prepares all students for performances in the arts and provides opportunities for those performances13. Adheres to the Rhode Island Educator Code of Professional Responsibility14.

Works collaboratively with peers at the school and district level to improve teaching, learning and educational programming for students15. Performs other duties as designated by the building administratorSKILLS REQUIREDAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, test data, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.Ability to calculate figures and amounts.Ability to utilize current technology for communication, data analysis, and access to research and instruction.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and school committee policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS: 1.
