What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School STEM/Tech Ed Teacher position at Portsmouth School Department?
Teaching STEM concepts in a hands-on lab/makerspace environment to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at Portsmouth Middle School as part of a Unified Arts team of teachers.
- Strong knowledge of scientific inquiry, engineering design process, and hands-on STEM instruction
- Design and facilitate hands-on labs, experiments, and engineering challenges
- Helping students understand how scientific knowledge develops, and encouraging investigations, modeling, trial and error, and the testing of hypothesis in each of the four disciplines of STEM
- Incorporate technology, project-based learning, and real-world applications into instruction
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to create a classroom atmosphere conducive tolearning
- Regularly assesses each students academic and social growth, maintains appropriate and timely records, and prepares progress reports.
- Proficiency in integrating educational technology and digital tools in the classroom
- Ability to create a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages student participation
- Commitment to fostering a growth mindset and encouraging innovation in students
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- The School Department's selection will be based on those with the highest capabilities, the strongest commitment to quality education, and the greatest probability of effectively implementing the learning program
- Experience teaching middle school science, technology educatinon, or STEM is preferred
- Licensed in NH as a Technology Education or Science Educator
