Job description
Portway Tavern, a Union Town Historic Landmark with a century of serving good food and spirits within its walls is looking for new crew members to continue the traditions and help escort it into the next 100 years. Acquired by new owners in early 2023, we’ve been busy making some necessary improvements to the facilities (new kitchen refrigeration, cooking appliances, and more) while maintaining what makes this local haunt so special. Bartender
The skinny
- Pay 14.75 hr base Tips ranging ~$13-$35 an hour, high potential $80 per hour during peak season.
- Part-time, flexible schedule.
- 3 years or more of equivalent work experience is preferred.
- Experience with Tavern establishments that turn out high order volume a plus.
- Valid OR food handlers card.
- OLCC Service Certification.
We are looking for a professional, high-energy bartender with excellent communication skills to serve classic cocktails and exciting new beverages to our customers. The bartender will greet customers, learn about their preferences, answer questions, recommend menu items, serve beverages and food. You will also upsell items, create cocktail recipes, utilize proper cocktail equipment and ingredients, and handle basic cleaning duties and prep work. Must be familiar with Oregon lottery and using a second till and POS system.
To succeed as a bartender here, you should be observant, engaging, friendly, and courteous to our guests as well as have a vast knowledge of cocktails.
Job Responsibilities:
- Welcoming customers, taking food and drink orders.
- Planning drink menus and informing customers about new beverages and food specials.
- Making and serving classic and craft cocktails.
- Checking identification to ensure customers are the legal age to purchase alcohol.
- Keeping your bar and walk in well stocked with bar supplies before and after your shift.
- Adhering to all food safety and quality regulations.
- Handling cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensuring charges are accurate and returning correct change to patrons, balancing the cash register.
- Maintaining a clean work and dining area by removing trash, cleaning tables, and washing glasses, utensils, and equipment.
- Developing new cocktail recipes
Job Requirements:
- Highschool diploma or GED
- Current OLCC and Food Handlers Permit
- Meets state minimum age to serve alcohol.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Positive, engaging personality, and professional appearance.
- Basic math and computer skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong task and time management abilities.
- Eye for detail and understanding of drink mixing tools and techniques.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, etc for extended periods, and lift up to 25 lbs.
